3D Visual Simulation

This module is responsible for the visual simulation of the line environment and special effects in the given exercise. It’s made up of a scenegraph software and various modules to simulate a visual world. Some of the features of VisSim are:
  • It has special effects module to visualize fire, smoke, debris and various other fx.
  • Sun, moon and stars are simulated visually according to date, time of day and the geographical coordinates.
  • VisSim has the ability to simulate weather conditions like rain, snow, wind, lightning, etc.
  • Fog, horizon, and clouds can be simulated in different levels.
  • VisSim screens objects in their right size according to distance from an observer. Different levels of detail is applied to polygons of objects.
  • Scenegraph of VisSim runs on OpenGL.
  • VisSim has the distributing rendering feature that supports running visual simulation on different screens of computers.
3D Line/Station Models

3D Line/Station Models database includes 3D Models of line, station, and environment which are used by VisSim. The model groups are as follows:
  • Train models
  • Railway models Tunnel and bridge models Sign and signal models
  • Station models Cultural models
IOS
  • Exercise Creations
  • Scenario Control
  • 2D/3D Monitoring
  • Malfunction/Event Management
  • VoIP
  • Cabin/Dynamics Monitoring
IOS

IOS module is the GUI for the instructor to prepare and control an exercise. Following are the fundemantal properties of IOS:
  • Entering the trainee and the instructor identity
  • Loading an existing exercise
  • Preparation of a new exercise
    • Selecting the track
    • Setting the signalization for the track
    • Configurating the Siemens B80D train
    • Setting the initial conditions of the simulation (date, time of day, weather conditions, etc.)
    • Adding faults and incidents to the exercise
    • Adding other trains and related incidents to the exercise
  • Simulation time control (Run/Freeze/Stop) of the exercise
  • Recording the exercise
  • Viewing cab controls (Figure 3)
  • Viewing line in 3D
  • Viewing line traffic in 2D
  • Adding bookmark to time to be used while replaying exercise
  • Adding chronometer to calculate time of any event
  • Changing the parameters of line traffic on run time
Performance Evaluator

Performance Evaluator has ability to output following diagrams (Figure 6) and statistics of exercises:
  • Speed/Distance Diagram
  • Distance/Time Diagram
  • Power/Distance Diagram
  • Energy/Distance Diagram
  • Occupation statistics (peak hour occupation percentage)
  • Delay statistics (total delays per station)
